Obama was either stupid or he was stupid! If he was in fact talking about Sara Palin it was stupid and if he wasn't talking about her he didn't understand how the line would be taken less than a week after Governor Sara Palin used the line "a hockey mom is a pit bull with lipstick" at the Republican Convention. A line that has been repeatedly shown on TV every since. If you look at the audience at the Obama rally when he used the line they though he was talking about Sara Palin. Don't spit on me and tell me it's raining! To watch the video of Obama click on the title for a link.
Was McCain the stinky old fish? By Victor Davis Hanson:
In all the furor over the Obama "pig" quote, commentators forgot to examine his entire attack:
"You can put lipstick on a pig. "It's still a pig."
"You can wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called change. It's still gonna stink."
When read in the entire context you can see what he seems to mean with his dual animate male/female references and why he probably evoked two metaphors: most would think that Obama is talking about both on the ticket and his anger how each has expropriated his change motif.
So in that sense he appears both to insult the 72-year old McCain as the "old fish" that is still going to "stink", and to refer to Palin, who had famously evoked the metaphor of lipstick in a nationally televised address, as still the pig despite the lipstick.
The fact that he used two metaphors to attack the two, and used expressions referring both to age and Palin's recent use of "lipstick" don't seem to be accidents and that's why the cooing crowd got the old fish=McCain;lipsticked
pig=Palin immediately.
Watch for his friends in the press come to his aid.
Obama is starting to make big mistakes I think the McGain Campaign and in particular Governor Sara Palin is getting into his head and has rattled him! He sees it slipping away!
On the other hand Governor Palin has other things on her mind. Her oldest son is going off to war .......... on September 11 ! Where do we get such men? From the heartland of America that's where!
UPDATE:This Morning ( Sept 10) Barak Obama refused to apologise for his remarks yesterday. Another mistake. One of the first rules of politics is if you make a mistake you apologise and move on. However, Obama is so arrogant that he feels he can get away with it and his friends in the media (are you listening Good Morning America) are sure trying to help him.... but his comments have outraged millions of Americans and they will not be forgotten.
UPDATE 2: McCain spokesman Brian Rogers responds: “Barack Obama can’t campaign with schoolyard insults and then try to claim outrage at the tone of the campaign. His talk of new politics is as empty as his campaign trail promises, and his record of bucking his party and reaching across the aisle simply doesn’t exist.”
UPDATE3: Put this in the category of they just can't help themselves:
South Carolina Democratic chairwoman Carol Fowler sharply attacked Sarah Palin today, saying John McCain had chosen a running mate " whose primary qualification seems to be that she hasn’t had an abortion.”
I guess it's lonely being a Democrat in South Carolina.
