"Civil War" Weekend

Considering the outcome of the Oregon vs Oregon State game I had a very nice week end that could have only been better if the Ducks had won. Our adult daughter flew home to Medford to go to the game with "The Old Man". I raised her to be a Duck fan but it is tough to go to Duck games when you live in Washington DC. As I posted earlier in the fall, she and her brother went to the Michigan game in Ann Arbor. She then made reservations before Dennis Dixon when down to fly out for the Civil War Game Weekend. She arrived in Medford on Thursday afternoon and we took her out to dinner at the Red Robbin and then took her home to show her the results of all our home improvement projects. She has not been home since last Christmas. We had seen her when we went to Europe together in August and met her for a wedding in Lacy Washington last February. However this is the first time she has been home in almost a year. We topped off the night by watching the Ducks beat Kansas State in overtime, in Basketball, at Kansas State, on TV.

Friday my wife took the day off from the office and she and our daughter spent the day together, going to the Festival of the Trees, shopping and had a nice lunch out. After I got off from work we all went out to the Bella Union in Jacksonville for Pizza. We arrived just as they were starting the Jacksonville Christmas Parade for their "Victorian Christmas"

On Saturday we left Medford at 8 AM for our trip to Eugene for the "Civil War" game. On the way out of town we stopped by Donut Country for their great Donuts. She said she had been unable to find donuts as good as Donut Country's, anywhere in Washington DC. We got to Eugene and parked our car on the campus side of the Willamette River and took the Footbridge over the river and through the woods to Autzen Stadium. I had purchased some "Club Seats" and we picked them up at "Will Call" and then walked thorough the Mo Center and it's giant tail gate party. We then went up the escalators to the "Club at Autzen"and had a nice lunch with a view of the woods. We ran into some friends from Medford. We then went to our "Club Seats" on the 50 yard line just three rows below Phil Knights sky box suite. Then my daughter said she wanted, for old time sake, to go over to our season ticket seats in Section 13 on the other side of the stadium. We agreed we would go over there for the first half and then come back to the "Club Seats" for the second half. It soon became clear that lots of Duck fans had bailed on the Ducks and sold or given their tickets to the Beaver fans. There was this awful orange all over the stadium and not just in the visitors section. There were even Beavers in the "Club at Autzen". What were these duck fans thinking? The game started and we had a great time up until the end. Quite frankly deep down I though the Beavers would win but my Ducks made a game of it, in spite of all their injuries. The game was tied at the half and we were so excited we decided to stay in our season ticket seats in section 13 where we were in the company of folks we have celebrated many a victory with. The score was tied at the end of regulation play and then the Ducks lost in double overtime. The game had been like a roller coaster ride. At one point we were hugging each other and giving each other "High 5's" and at other times we were so depressed. After the game we joined the great exodus over the footbridge and back to our car. We then drove home to Medford and got home about 9 pm.

Due to some flight delays our daughter was unable to fly out of Medford on Sunday as planed so we all went to a movie at Tinsel Town. We then watched the BCS program on TV and learned the Ducks were going to the Sun Bowl. We topped off Sunday night by watching the Movie "Amazing Grace" on DVD in my movie room. On Monday I took her out to breakfast at Elmer's on the way to the airport and said good by. She will be home for Christmas in a few weeks. All in all a very good weekend. We are lucky parents!
