Happy St Patrick's Day
Directed by John Ford who liked to claim that his real name was Sean Aloysius O'Feeny. Ford, an Irishman from Portland Maine, made his movie as an act of love for the native land of his parents. He made it in Ireland in 1952. It was nominated for seven Academy Awards and won Ford his fourth Oscar for Best Director.I can't wait for it to come out on blu-ray!
In this, John Ford's most personal movie, John Wayne's character is named "Sean" which was John Ford's claimed real first name. In the movie Wayne fell in love with Maureen O'Hara, whose character's name is "Mary Kate." The name of the two women he loved. Mary was the first name of John Ford's wife and "Kate" was Katherine Hepburn's nick name.
