History Repeating Itself In Iraq?

Last night on Fox News a retired general who had served in Iraq suggested that with all of Iraq including Bagdad  in danger of falling to an Islamic terrorist group named  Isis that the United States should put retired General David Petraeus  on an airplane for Bagdad to see if he could turn the situation around as he did before during the Iraq war without having to commit "boots on the ground" from the United States.

This sounds very like the situation in the Sudan in 1884. A radical Muslim group under a leader called the Mahdi were terrorizing the Sudan and threating it's capital of Khartoum. An Egyptian army under the command of  British officers had been wiped out by the Mahdi  and the British people in Victorian England were outraged and demanded that the British government send an English Army up the Nile river to save Khartoum. England's Prime Minister, William Gladstone, didn't want to commit British troops to such a relief effort up the Nile from Egypt so he sent General Charles "Chinese" Gordon,  who's exploits in the British colonial empire were well know, to evacuate the Europeans trapped in Khartoum.

General Gordon being the character he was got to Khartoum and mounted a defense of the city that was successful for a number of months. Gladstone hearing of Gordon's defense was then forced to send a British Army up the Nile to "save" Gordon but it was too late. In the end, Gordon  and 10,000 people in Khartoum were killed by the Mahdi and Gordon's head was brought to the Mahdi and his body mutilated.

There have been numerous reports that the Isis in Iraq have been beheading their captured foes.

The late British author, Christopher Hitchens, and I didn't agree on a lot but I sure agree with his description of "Islamic Fascism" as follows:

In the last century the democratic west lacked the will to fight Fascism until it was almost too late when Churchill gave England the courage to stand alone against it. In this century will the democracy wait till it is too late to fight Islamic Fascism. Will we wait till Iran has nuclear weapons as we did with North Korea?

Dereliction of Duty by our Commander in Chief

The Media is working overtime today protecting Obama for his actions or lack of action in protecting Americans who were  in a desperate running battle in Benghazi. There was evidence today that three times over 6 hours they ask for reinforcements and were turned down three times.

As a retired military man just said on Fox News, when the situation is unclear and you have men engaged in a desperate fight you march to the sound of gunfire. You DO NOT allow them to die without using everything in your power to bring them relief. Twice today, President Obama refused to answer direct questions from a Denver TV reporter if Americans under attack were denied help. He wouldn't answer and that speaks volumes. Why did it take a local reporter to ask that question ?

CIA operators were denied request for help during Benghazi attack

Fox News has learned from sources who were on the ground in Benghazi that an urgent request from the CIA annex for military back-up during the attack on the U.S. Consulate and subsequent attack several hours later was denied by U.S. officials -- who also told the CIA operators twice to "stand down" rather than help the ambassador's team when shots were heard at approximately 9:40 p.m. in Benghazi on Sept. 11.

Interesting facts:

Woods and at least two others ignored those orders and made their way to the Consulate which at that point was on fire. Shots were exchanged.



According to a source on the ground at the time of the attack, the team inside the CIA annex had captured three Libyan attackers and was forced to hand them over to the Libyans. U.S. officials do not know what happened to those three attackers and whether they were released by the Libyan forces.



Tyrone Woods was later joined at the scene by fellow former Navy SEAL Glen Doherty,  ........They were killed by a mortar shell at 4 a.m. Libyan time, nearly seven hours after the attack on the Consulate began -- a window that represented more than enough time for the U.S. military to send back-up from nearby bases in Europe,

Obama Knew!!!!

Within two hours of the terrorist attack on our consulate in Benghazi, Libya, and while the seven hour battle was going on,  President Obama revived an email from our Embassy in Libya, telling him   that it was a terrorist acttack and not a spontaneous crowd reaction to a little known video. Before the battle was over he had received two more email including the name of the Al Quada linked  terrorist group carrying out the attack.  He then chose to lie to the American People as to the the cause of the attack and killing of four Americans, including our Ambassador to Libya !He stood over their coffins and knew! He looked us in the eye and lied!

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Officials at the White House and State Department were advised two hours after attackers assaulted the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya, on September 11 that an Islamic militant group had claimed credit for the attack, official emails show.
The emails, obtained by Reuters from government sources not connected with U.S. spy agencies or the State Department and who requested anonymity, specifically mention that the Libyan group called Ansar al-Sharia had asserted responsibility for the attacks.
The brief emails also show how U.S. diplomats described the attack, even as it was still under way, to Washington.

Yes, folks that is a Reuters report.  Not Fox News but REUTERS !

 Administration spokesmen, including White House spokesman Jay Carney, citing an unclassified assessment prepared by the CIA, maintained for days that the attacks likely were a spontaneous protest against an anti-Muslim film.

• For starters, Fox News' Bret Baier has tirelessly (and thus far, flawlessly) done superb work in connecting the Libya dots. Last night was his best reporting yet in an hour-long "Special Report" that focused exclusively on Benghazi -- from the security failures and heart-wrenching details of the attack itself, straight through to the White House cover up that would follow.
  The special reruns Sunday on Fox News at 3 and 10pm Eastern, and if you haven't already, I urge you to tune in (it's on YouTube, as well). Baier does deliver some new news -- including an interview with the head of the U.S. Embassy's Site Security Team. Known as the SST, this was a 16-member Special Operations unit that we're told might've made the difference in the hours-long firefight that ensued the night of the attack.
  Inexplicably, and against the wishes of the Libyan Embassy staff, the SST was pulled out in August even as security conditions worsened. Targeted attacks against Westerners were on the rise, including attacks against the consulate itself. The only reason the removal of this team makes sense is through a political prism. Apparently, the Obama Administration was worried an extension of the SST's stay would send a signal that Libya wasn't as flawless of a lead-from-behind success as advertised.
